How to create a website
How to create a website in 3 simple steps. I will show anyone how they can create their very own website, for almost no cost. If you want it free, go check out some of the so called “free” website builders. Be sure to check the T’s&C’s though! If you have your own business and need to own your website & content, then this is for you.
How to create a website in 3 easy steps
- Signup for a hosting account & URL (website address). I suggest Linux hosting and make sure your account allows at least one MySQL database. If you are in South Africa, then I recommend Hetzner but do some research on the options. There is quite a variety of price choices. Just remember, there is a good reason why the cheap ones are cheap…
- Once you are logged into your new hosting control panel, look for the “software installer” (that is what Hetzner calls it). If you have cPanel, look for something called “softaculous”. Then choose to install “WordPress”. The actual installation is automatic.
- Complete the installation by putting in a few details like site name, admin username, password & email. Once you are done, you will have your very own website.
Is it really that simple?
Yes, but what you have is a default WordPress website. You could probably work out how to add content pretty quickly but making your WordPress website look awesome, that will take some work. You have a few options:
- DIY. Get onto Google and Youtube and do some learning. There is lots of free WordPress tutorials available, this is the world of open source. If you decide to go this route I will help you by pointing out that this process will be MUCH faster if you spend a little money on a good template for your WordPress site.
- DIY with help. Do a quick WordPress course or 2. If you are the kind of person that needs to be taught by a person then why not do a quick, 2 day course, and learn the skills you need?
- Hire a PRO. You can spend a little money and hire a professional to do it for you. This is both fast & the end product is guaranteed. But it is likely to be a bit more expensive than the other 2 options above:) If this is the option for you, please get it touch.
